Matt Wheeler’s Post

I still enjoy randomly galloping across pages of various artistic creations. The best part is that, when on these websites, if I find something I'm urged to click, i'm typically led to another website filled with even more inspirational art pieces. This is how I came across this project.

Basically a person decided to go on a 365 day tumbler project, posting typographic artworks layered over various beautiful photographs. It's a good example of how graphic design applies both to photography and typography; you can't just take any photo, lay some text on it and hope it comes out right. You have to be thinking of the type when you create the final piece, or be thinking of the image when you create the type, then you have to arrange that type to both grab your attention whilst still giving attention to the incredible image in the background.

Another concept I noticed with these pieces is Less is More. It didn't take alot of flare to make this images really stand out, and neither do graphic designs require vast amounts of material to be attractive, not to say that using less is any more easy.

These images are just fantastic: I can't say it enough. I'd honestly fill a room in my house with these all framed and fill up the walls. But of course i'm a broke college student.

  4. Awesome! I agree with you. Not any typeface will go with any photo. That's why these are so great! The typefaces chosen match perfectly the feel of the picture.

  5. Love this. Less is definitely more here. I think #2 is my favorite. Just very subtle, blends so well.

  6. These are great! I love how subtle these designs are and how the text balances the picture nicely. The 4th image is my favorite. I love both the quote and the picture.

  7. This style is starting to become very common but I like how he does it different on each one. It makes it so the pieces are trendy but still unique on their own. Great photography to go with it.

  8. The third one is my favorite because I love how the words are not as noticible at the beginning of the phrase and as you read down the contrast between "begin" and the dark background it is on really strikes home. I really like how the image and the text feed off of one another too. The others are nice but the third one really stood out to me. I also like how the artist didn't use the same subject matter for all of the images or the same style of font. Even though this is becoming popular after a while they all start too look the same. Good job on find this!

  9. These are beautiful. Really emotional photography and the typography is impeccable. The only thing wrong with them is that they are something I have seen many times before. In fact, I have seen a few of these images floating around Tumblr and other sites like that. But they are still great pieces of work.

  10. There is a very distinct style to be seen here. Each one may be of something different, but you can for sure tell they are from the same designer/photographer or editor. I like the consistency though. It says something about the artist at work behind the pieces. Personally I think they are quite cinematic in nature.

  11. These all are awesome, they have great pictures that allows the type to flow into it very nicely. The Type on them all looks great to, i really like the one with the banner on it that one just looks really cool.
