Luke Morris’ Post

A digital artist named Luke Lucas did the following works, and his typography is some of the best I have ever seen.  His typography is absolute genius, and perfectly solves the problems of his clients.  His poster on grooming is perhaps my favorite.  It is done so well that I forget that I am looking at type, and see fascinating artwork instead.  Yet, the artwork does not harm the readability of the type in the slightest.  This is the ideal of typography.

  1. Cool designs! My favorite is the 'Hot 100'. I think that the electric coils are a nice touch and the smoke really drives the heated point home. I can't decipher the second one completely, I found two 'A's and 'ING' but I can't make out the others. The grooming one is clever but the food one is a little plain in my opinion. It is a good solution but it doesn't jump out to me like the previously mentioned ones or even the neon designer one". The dents made in the letters for the screws or nails is my favorite part of the font. Very well done!

  2. I have to agree with you about his typography. He is very creative with the way he incorporates the subject of the design in his type. One thing I didn't like was the "Amazing" poster. It took me a bit to figure out what it said and it it busy. I really like the Food one though. I like how he turned the letters into donuts. I also like the Hot poster. I like the design and the smoke effect.

  3. I love the "Hot 100" one. Very legible but creative. The handling of the smoke is really nice. I finally figured out that the second one said "Amazing" which was an interesting idea to make it a maze but pretty close to illegible. The Grooming one is probably my favorite. Really easy to read but also a neat idea that was executed well too. I like the donut type on the food edition one but it doesn't really seem to fit in with the rest of the design.

  4. These are all very creative! I really like the Hot 100, the grooming one, and the food one. It took awhile to figure out what the "Amazing" poster said, but I think it does visually draw you in and make you want to figure it out. I would like to know what it is for. The grooming one is perfect. Very well done. I love how he used a real plate and utensils in "The Food Edition" poster. I just wish the donuts could be real too, but I know that would be very hard to make.

  5. These are really diverse and creative. He obviously has a lot of talent. My favorite is the second one, even though it looks more like a design than typography. I also love the "Hot 100" with the smoke effect.

  6. I love this out of the box approach to typography. There is so much potential here and I think we undervalue and belittle it so many times, because it is out of our comfort zone. Now obviously food shapes fonts can get old after a while, but there seems to be very specific scenarios in which this does work.

  7. I like all of these. The word gets lost in the "amazing" one (I think that's what it says). I agree that the grooming one is very good. I also envy his ability to use photoshop like he does on the Hot 100 one, assuming he didn't make a custom stove. If that's the case, I envy his work ethic instead.

  8. I disagree with your statement that it doesn't harm legibility on the "Amazing" poster. Took me like 10 secs to see it. Still a really neat representation of the word.Love the "Grooming" one. It feels a little busy, but I don't think that's bad. Super cool stuff.
