Sophia Shafer’s Post #2

One of the most annoying things is when you go to the hospital and you don't understand anything. When they give you a prescription or test results it has to be interpreted for you so that you can understand. While looking through information design websites I came across this re-designed blood test. This blood test is visually appealing, easy to understand, and is extremely helpful. I love how everything is easy to locate and it breaks things down step by step. The colors on the test are vibrant and the type is interesting. I really just love how they take something so complicated and make it simple. I really wish that hospitals and other places would take their complicated papers and make them understandable. Not only would it make it easy for a person to understand I would personally be more inclined to want to go back since I know that I won't be confused.

  1. I think this is a really good example of what information design.. At the beginning I have to admit that I was really confused about what information design but as I keep looking through examples I realize that information design is information presented in a fun and creative way.. Another thing that I found interesting is that information design can be also in almost everything that deals with presenting information.. At the beginning I thought that Information Design can only be used with really complicated information but that's not the case. After seeing this example I believe that I have a better understanding of Information Design

  2. This is so neat! I was having a conversation the other day about how I hate going to hospitals because of how bland and boring everything is (among other reasons...but you get the point). How much more bearable would they be if all medical information and wall decoration in doctors offices and hospitals at least made an effort to be interesting?

  3. That is so great! I completely agree that hospital results, prescriptions ect. are way to complicate and hard to follow. I never know what I need to be looking at first. I can totally follow that bloodwork cardiology result sheet. It's numbered, includes colors, and has visuals. I really wish all hospitals and doctors had such great designs on their result sheets.

  4. This is the coolest prescription test that I have ever seen! The blood test page is very appealing looking, and it is also very easy to understand. I like how the chart shows exactly what normal the levels are and where the patient actually ranked. It also lets the patient know what their personal risk level is, as well as what the patient needs to do in order to fix the problem. It is a creative way to let someone know what is wrong and what they need to do in order to improve their situations, or how to fix it. I think doctors should consider doing something like this because of its simplicity and large amount of information.

  5. Wow. Props for finding this. This is grade A information design at work. Honestly, the world could use more of this. There are millions of documents out there that are just plain confusing (and boring!) I mean, it'd be stupid to do this to standalone documents, but when it's a regular occurrence like a blood test where you'd just need a form, this is pure genius in a can! I'm a strong advocate of simplicity, and this is a great way to convey extremely important information clearly to anyone who as eyes!

  6. This is such a great example of good information design. Usually when I receive information at the doctor's office I hardly take the time to try to read it and decipher the information. This design is simple, straight to the point, full of the needed information and aesthetically pleasing. I really like how it shows clearly good cholesterol and bad cholesterol. With the bars going across, it's so much simpler to see and compare, rather than just lists of numbers. I also think the "what's next" information at the bottom with the images is very effective.

  7. This is a really good example of information design. The blood test information is very easy to read and visually pleasing. If hospitals did this often it would be very helpful in communicating the test results to the patients. This is a good find and a really cool example of what good information can do for society.

  8. This is the kind of design that is very useful. Millions of people go to the doctor day to day, millions of people are confused by the information that is presented to them. Some people don't have the ability to decipher some information and without a friendly doctor to help, they are left in the dark. However, if more design was like this, people would have a much easier time.

  9. This is awesome! I absolutely hate trying to figure out what in the world those things from the doctor are trying to say. They are ugly and confusing and look like they could have been printed 40 years ago. They are horrible. This new design is brilliant! I is very clear and makes me want to look and figure out what it is trying to say. The information is very clear and it is definitely very appealing to look at.
