Logo Design

Logos
when designing logos it is always important to keep in mind who your client is, what they stand for, what they want to represent, and who their audience is. This is important, so that you are designing something that actual represents the client rather than just something that looks nice. Design is more than looking nice, it is also problem solving and coming up with the best solution in order to help your client, research is therefore very helpful as well.

Below I am including some logos that I like and why I like them

La Maison Theatre I really like this logo for the maison theater. The type is clean and simple, as well is the design and the colors compliment each other nicely. Their website explains that they are for the youth of all ages. I think that this logo gives the feeling of youth and therefore fits the company well. Further, I like the simplicity of it, it is not over designed; nice
and simple.

The Woodlands
logo is also very nicely done. The neighborhood advertises that it is the "natural neighborhood" therefore the use of a leaf and tree is very fitting. The addition of little elements such as a hat and a bird on the branches are nice additions. It also has a nice usage of negative space.

First Vine; I really like the first vine logo because it is simple and clean. It is appropriate to use a wine bottle for a wine company, and the use of type fitting nicely inside the bottle looks nice as well.

When designing logos draw out every idea that you have, even if it seems silly, sometimes your silly ideas can turn into something great. Come up with as many ideas as you can, and try your ideas at different angles, smaller, bigger, in color - do not limit your creativity.

  1. I agree with you on all three logos. I think that the "La Maison Theatre" logo has a nice design. I think that all the colors complement each other well and the simplicity is very nice. I don't, however, think that the logo has enough meaning. By looking at the logo I could never guess what company/organization the logo was for. The "Woodlands" logo is very nice as well. I like the use of positive and negative space, but it might be a little too detailed to be printed very small. Also, the box that says woodlands is crooked and that bothers me for some reason... The "First Vine" logo, on the other hand, is great. I think it has both meaning and simplicity, and it is appropriate for the company. If I had to critique something, the only thing that I would suggest is that it be a little more elegant, but only because wine is associated with elegance or fanciness.

  2. I love all three logos. I think that they work very well. I like how the "La Maison Theatre" uses stage lights to form their "M". The colors also work well with their goal to have a youthful environment. The "Woodlands" logo is a great example of using negative space. Although, I don't like how the box that says woodlands is crooked because I think that something that looks that formal should be level. The "First Vine" logo is great! I love their incorporation of the wine bottle, so that you know exactly that it is a wine company without screaming it.

  3. First vine logo is my favorite out of the three. Love the type and that it is only one color. It's easily recognizable too, and a fun new spin on wine; usually when one thinks of a logo for wine they think more sophisticated, but this is still sophisticated while being fun, goes along with the idea of "first vine" too.

  4. The Woodlands is hands down my favorite logo out of the three. It has this indie, nature-conscious, Mumford & Sons/Johnny Flynn feel which makes me think it's perfect for the "natural" spirit of the neighborhood. I would love to see this logo as a sticker.

  5. I disagree Grady and Kacia in regards to the "Woodlands" logo. I think the slight tilt of the box lends itself to a touch of humanity and emphasizes their slogan of "a natural neighborhood". The sophistication of the graphic element gives it an ordered and well-constructed feel, something you want in a neighborhood, whereas the bird hat, and jaunty angle of the box give it an air of fun and humanity.

  6. At first, I wasn't a big fan of the Maison Theatre logo because while the type is nice and fits well with the graphic, I didn't think the graphic really had anything to do with the company. However, the colors and shapes seems reminiscent of the gels that are used with stage lights. The Woodlands logo is really nice looking at the size it is displayed, but I don't think it would work for stationary, especially a business card because you would lose readability of everything except the leaf. The first vine logo is my favorite. I like the color, the simplicity, the hand drawn type and the fact that the type goes off of the bottle. Also, it would be effective at all sizes, which is a definite plus.

  7. I like the first vine logo the most. I think the simple type with a simple shape can lead to a very popular logo. The design can be applied to multiple objects without needing to be distorted or lose a necessary color. The logo stands out because it can be read as a tiny or very large image.

  8. I love the first logo - I think that it's modern and that it successfully captures the idea of youth while remaining aesthetically interesting. I do not like the other two as much just because the woodlands logo is not particularly unique and the vine logo is hard to read.

  9. These logos are all good examples of what a logo is suppose to do for a company. The first one even reminds me of being at the theater because the way the colors over lap each other its like the lights on a stage. The 2nd logo is fun and fitting to the neighborhood it represents. It gives the idea of fun and friendly. I'd even like to visit. The 3rd logo is kinda plain, but definitely appropriate.

  10. I personally like the woodlands logo, out of personal preference, but I think the first logo for the Maison Theatre is better designed. The color scheme is incredibly relevant with the targeted audience. It fits very well with the type color and blends naturally. The woodlands logo presents a lot of very well with the negative space, but at the same time I feel that the logo protrudes a little too high past the type. I still think that it is well designed.

  11. The Mason Theatre one seems to be my favorite as I've been favoring blue on red designs as of late. I like that all these logos are simple enough that they will produce well no matter the size. I'd say problem solved.
